What is an AI citation report?

An AI citation report is an audit of how easily AI assistants can find, read, trust and quote a website.

It checks whether AI crawlers are allowed in, whether each page gives a direct answer that can be lifted out, whether facts are specific and sourced, and whether it is clear who is behind the site. The result is one score out of 100 and a list of fixes in order of importance.

The free part is an AI visibility checker: enter your address and see your score in about a minute.

How does it work?

It works in three steps and takes about a minute. You need nothing but your website's address.

1

Crawl

We read your robots.txt, your sitemap and up to 20 key pages, the way an AI crawler does: without running JavaScript.

2

Score

Forty checks across five layers roll up into one AI Visibility Score out of 100.

3

Fix

You get a list in order of importance: what to change, why it matters to AI systems, and an example to copy. Then re-check twice, free.

Bonus, free

Fix it, then check it again. Free, twice.

Every full report comes with two bonus re-checks, free, for 60 days. Make your fixes, press the button on your report, and we scan the same pages again: your new score beside the old one, what got fixed, and what got worse, page by page.

Still something to sort out? Fix it and use the second. No subscription, nothing more to pay.

What does the report check?

The report runs 40 checks in five layers, each answering one question an AI system has to settle before it quotes you.

Layer 1: Crawl and access

Can AI crawlers get in?

Robots.txt rules, firewall blocks, sitemaps, redirects, indexing directives, and whether your content is in the HTML or hidden behind JavaScript.

Layer 2: Content structure

Can an answer be lifted out?

One clear headline, ordered subheadings, an opening that answers the question, question-style headings, lists, tables, summaries and structured data.

Layer 3: Fact density

Is there something worth quoting?

Specific figures, plain definitions, concrete examples, links to primary sources, statistics with their source beside them, and content that is kept fresh.

Layer 4: Entity and trust

Can they tell who you are?

Organization data, named authors with their own pages, about and contact pages, one consistent brand name, linked profiles, and a place in the knowledge graph.

Layer 5: Measurement

Will you know if it works?

Analytics, search console verification, an llms.txt file, and whether you track AI referrals, crawler visits and your share of citations.

40

checks in all

Each one comes with the evidence we found on your site.

How the audit works

How is AI visibility different from SEO?

SEO is about ranking in a list of links. AI visibility is about being the source an assistant quotes in its answer. A page can do well at one and badly at the other.

SEOAI visibility
The goal Rank high in a list of ten links Be one of the few sources quoted in an answer
Who reads the page Googlebot and Bingbot Those, plus OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others
What gets used The whole page, as a result to click A sentence or a paragraph, lifted out
What helps most Keywords, links from other sites, page speed A direct answer up top, specific facts, named sources, a clear author
JavaScript Mostly rendered by Google Mostly not run: content must be in the HTML
How you measure it Rankings and organic traffic Citations, AI referrals and your share against competitors

Questions and answers

What is an AI citation report?

An AI citation report is an audit of how easily AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity can find, read, trust and quote a website. It checks crawler access, content structure, factual detail, identity signals and measurement, and turns the results into one score with a list of fixes.

How much does it cost?

The scan, your AI Visibility Score and six of the 40 checks are free, with no signup. The full report costs US$9 once, with no subscription.

It includes all 40 checks, every fix with an example and a score for each page. As a bonus, it comes with two free re-checks within 60 days, so you can see what your fixes changed.

How is the AI Visibility Score calculated?

The score is the share of points earned across the 35 checks we can verify, out of 100; the other five are questions for you and are not scored. Each check is worth 1, 2 or 3 points depending on how much it matters.

A pass earns all of its points and a partial pass half. Checks judged on every page earn in proportion to the pages that pass. The audit page explains the five layers the checks fall into.

Which AI crawlers do you check for?

We test whether your robots.txt and your firewall let in 17 crawlers, including OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and GPTBot from OpenAI, Claude-SearchBot, Claude-User and ClaudeBot from Anthropic, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Bingbot and Applebot. Blocking a search crawler fails the check; blocking only training crawlers is a partial pass.

How is this different from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit asks whether a page can rank in a list of links. An AI citation report asks whether a passage from the page can be lifted into an answer and credited to you.

That depends on things SEO tools pay little attention to: whether AI crawlers are let in, whether each page opens with a direct answer, and whether facts carry their sources.

Does a high score guarantee that AI assistants will cite my site?

No. The score measures signals associated with being cited, and only the ones you can change on your own site.

It does not measure reputation, such as how many other sites link to you, and nobody outside the AI companies knows exactly how sources are chosen. A higher score improves your chances; it is not a promise.

Do you need access to my website or analytics?

No. We read only what any visitor or crawler can see: your robots.txt, your sitemap and up to 20 public pages. Five checks about how you measure AI visibility cannot be seen from outside, so the report asks you five yes-or-no questions instead.

What are the free re-checks?

Every full report comes with two bonus re-checks, free, for 60 days. A re-check (we call it a post-fix report) scans the same pages again once your changes are live, and shows your new score beside the old one, which checks were fixed, improved, are still open or got worse, and on which pages.

If the first shows something still needs work, fix it and use the second. There is nothing more to pay.

Why could my site not be audited?

A site cannot be audited when our crawler is turned away by a firewall or robots.txt, when its pages are empty until JavaScript runs, or when fewer than three pages can be read. In each case we say which, you are not charged, and the scan does not count toward your free scans.
